Support the Festival...

Please support the Harrogate Competitive Festival - we need your help to continue helping young, developing, passionate people study and perform their arts.

Running since 1936 we aim to advance the education of the public in the arts of music, speech, drama and dance in all their branches. We hold an annual festival, costing ~£20k, where mainly young people can perform for an audience of friends and family and receive an adjudication from independent, professional adjudicators.

Every year our charity, staffed entirely by volunteers, runs the Festival with an operating shortfall of circa £5,000 per year, on average.  We have been supported by donations from third parties for years.  Those funds are running dry and we now need help.  The Festival pays to hire the facilities used and provide adjudicators.

If you can find just £2 per month to donate to us, this can really make a difference.

The button below makes it easy to set up a regular payment, catering for Gift Aid where appropriate.

Thank you

Derek Starling and Alan Connell - Trustees, Volunteers.

THE 2024 FESTIVAL IS NOW OVER!!

This year's festival was very successful with over 1300 school-age students performing in over 150 classes across more than 29 different categories, covering all ages from 4 to 19 (with a few older adults too!!).

The Young Musician of the Festival winner was flautist Alannah Saphir who was awarded the Chairman's Trophy and £250 generously donated for the purpose by the Finzi Trust (www.geraldfinzi.org). The Trust has supported the Festival over the last three years and we are very grateful for that support.

The winner of the Speech & Drama Championship was Isabella Withy. She was awarded the Festival Speech & Drama Trophy and £250 funded by the Festival itself.

Planning for 2025 has already begun. Congratulations to everyone who took part this year and a big THANK YOU to all the volunteers and donors who generously give of their time and money to keep this very valuable local festival going. It wouldn't happen without you.

We always need more volunteers and donors. Please contact me for more details.

Schedule for the 2024 Festival

Alan and I are working through the schedule.

The first draft is out to the committee and the section leaders for review and for any adjustments / corrections. We hope to finalise this by the end of the weekend (28th January), so that next week we can send correspondents their personalised schedule.

Please bear with us.

Kind regards

TROPHY RE-HOMING

In the spring this year we reluctantly decided not to award most of our trophies any more. We simply do not have the volunteer human resources needed to manage the logistics of their collection and allocation to classes so the decision was taken only to award 5 of the 203 trophies we have been given over the years. Next year we will award a couple more than we did this year but the rest of the trophies require re-homing.

We are hoping initially to return trophies to their original donors or their heirs where they can be found and some donors have generously given their trophies to previous winners whose names are engraved on them.

We still have 182 trophies to deal with, 61 of which we have no provenance for, other than in a few cases the name of the trophy itself, which isn't always any practical help. The list is set out below and any information about any of the trophies listed there will be gratefully received. Please send it to me at treasurer@hcfmsd.co.uk
